The police in Calabar have arrested a 73 years old retired army captain for allegedly defiling his 4 years old niece. Bassey Ekanem allegedly fingered the girl in his residence at 12, Edim Ibangha Street, Big Qua Town, Calabar.   According to Vanguard, a source said Ekanem claimed he was under the influence of alcohol.   The retired army Captain, who the child refers to as grandpa, has been in the North for years before he came to Calabar after retiring from the army.   To have the girl to himself, he sent the woman living with him out of the house then allegedly assaulted the child.   A source who spoke to the publication said: “He (suspect) had sent the lady living with him to make soup while she went to buy fish at Marian market, Bassey lured the little girl into his apartment and started fingering her and broke her hymen in the process.   “It was the victim’s younger brother who is about two years old who told their mother that grandpa put his ha...

A 20-page autopsy report released by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office has revealed that George Floyd who died after some Minneapolis police officers knelt on his neck, tested positive for Coronavirus in April.    The autopsy report came with the family’s permission and it was released after the coroner’s office released summary findings which affirmed that Floyd had a heart attack while being restrained by officers. As the conversation on rape and sexual harassment against women continues, a Nigerian lawyer, Liborous Oshoma, has said that men cannot say they were raped because rape, as defined by the Nigerian law, is only when there is penetration and men cannot say a woman penetrated them.   According to him, what men can say is that they were sexually assaulted an not raped. He said this when he appeared on TVC this morning.   ''That is a big legal problem. The best it can be is assault because as defined in our law, it is penetration. The question is can a woman penetrate a man. The entire staff of the general hospital in Ngala, Borno State have been suspended by Governor Babagana Zulum for abandoning their duty.    The governor was said to have paid an unscheduled visit to the hospital on Monday morning, but the entire staff under the government payroll were absent.   They were reported to have abandoned the hospital to humanitarian workers of an international non-governmental organisation (NGO) managing hundreds of patients at the facility, including internally-displaced persons (IDPs).     Governor Babagana Zulum who expressed his disappointment during the unscheduled visit, was received at the medical facility by a field coordinator of the NGO.     He said;    “This is a General Hospital belonging to Borno state government. Derek Chauvin, the Minneapolis officer who knelt on George Floyd's neck till he died, has been arrested and charged with 3rd degree murder.  The other 3 officers who stood by and watched are still under investigation, but no charges have yet been filed.   Derek Chauvin, who was fired on Tuesday along with three other officers involved in the detainment of Floyd, was taken into custody Friday and faces charges of 3rd-degree murder and manslaughter, Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman announced.   3rd degree murder is a crime committed without premeditation or intention to kill and involves killing another person through inherent dangerous actions and with no regard to human life.   Freeman said he expected more charges to come, possibly against some of the other three officers.   “The investigation is ongoing," Freeman said, "We felt it was appropriate to focus on the most dangerous perpetrator. A Washington state high school wrestling coach has been fired for mocking the murder of George Floyd by a white Minneapolis police officer.   Dave Hollenbeck, the first-year coach at Bethel High School posted a photo of himself on the floor, with a knee to the back of his neck as he smiles. A Minneapolis man, who identified Derek Chauvin from the video where he was kneeling on the neck of George Floyd till he died, has told of how the same officer almost killed him in 2008.   According to Daily Beast, Ira Latrell Toles,33, said Derek Chauvin stormed into his home on May 24, 2008, and assaulted him in the bathroom before shooting him in the stomach.   After watching the video on George Floyd's tragic death on Tuesday evening, Toles texted his sister saying Chauvin might have been the cop who shot him.   His sister watched the video fo Derek Chauvin kneeling on George Floyd's neck for 9 minutes and she confirmed that he was indeed the one who shot him in 2008.   Toles, who still experiences stomach pain to this day, says George Floyd would have been alive today if Chauvin was punished for shooting him in 2008.   "If he was reprimanded when he shot me, George Floyd would still be alive," Toles said.   Recall that LIB reporte...
